"Don’t try to stop the whirl and chatter of the mind. Just stop believing it." ~ Fred LaMotte
Many people
believe that the practice of meditation is intended to quiet the mind. Even the word "mindfulness," sounds as if meditation is intended to be a study of the mind, or perhaps a study of how to quiet the mind.
As my meditation teacher, Jonathan Foust, likes to say, "There really is no mind in mindfulness." Perhaps the
practice should be renamed, "Heartfulness."
Let's practice the basics together this week and remind ourselves to come back to the heart, to the felt sense, to the breath, again and again and again. What would happen if we stopped automatically believing the mind? Just think how peaceful, joyful and enroching our
lives could truly be!
