“It is in giving that we receive. The goal is not just to create joy for ourselves but… to be a reservoir
of joy, an oasis of peace, a pool of serenity that ripples out to all those around you."
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
We'll begin our Meditation Groups this week with a grounding exercise - a walking meditation.
If it's possible for you to do the first meditation outside, with bare feet, I recommend that. If that doesn't work for you, we will imagine soft, luscious grass under our feet.
Four Brain Circuits for Wellbeing
Neuroscientist Richard Davidson's research shows that there are four independent brain circuits that influence
our lasting wellbeing. These are:
Our ability to maintain positive states
Our ability to recover from negative states
Our ability to focus and avoid mind-wandering
Our ability to be generous.
This research is cited in The Book of Joy. We will address these aspects in our meditations this week by exploring some of our core meditation practices.
