You might consider making a list for yourself.
Make yourself a list of practices for emergencies.
For those times when your brain will not automatically serve up suggestions on how to deal. For those times when you are stuck in fight or freeze mode… For those times you “lose your mind.”
These practices aren’t really just used for emergencies – they are wonderful to employ during your day. The reason I am suggesting that you make a list and keep it somewhere handy is for those times, when it seems hard to even remember to breathe. Or when you do remember to breathe and find you can’t even do that. These are first aid for our nervous systems in need.
Ask: “What are the things that calm me down?”
What are the things which make it easier for you to breathe? These can be very simple things, such as:
Play
music
Sit in the dark
Light a candle and pray
Give and receive a hug
Spend time with
a beloved pet
Be in nature
Take a shower
What works for you? What's on your list?
