Hi ,
“Do what you do when you’re doing it and don’t do what you’re not doing when you’re not doing it.”
~Hale Dwoskin
At first glance, this quote may seem nonsensical. If you read it again, you might start to realize this is something most of us are doing all of the time.
While I was taking a bath last night, I discovered that I wasn’t really in the bath. My mind was rehashing and rehearsing all of the things which had happened or come to my attention that day. I found myself doing really important things, such as wondering if a decision I had made was the wrong decision. Now, mind you, this was not a life altering decision, it was merely a decision
to change the time of a yoga class. So instead of enjoying the water around me, the soothing aspects of taking a bath, I was agonizing over really trivial things.
This brings us to the essence of meditation. Meditation is developing and reinforcing mental muscles, awareness muscles if you will, to continuously return to the present moment. It is in meditation that we discover we rarely are in the current moment. For myself, I know I would be a lot happier and content in my life if I learn to stay in this moment.
Come practice with me this week, if you have time. It surely helps.
